Asking MCR Homes about multiple fire safety concerns
I hope this email finds you well. Following the recent "Fire Safety" week initiative, I feel compelled to bring to your immediate attention several fire safety concerns within the Old Works building, where I reside. Your commitment to maintaining safety standards is crucial, and I trust that the issues outlined below will be addressed promptly to ensure the well-being of all residents.
- Plastic Flooring Between Flats and Floors: There is plastic coverings on the floor between flats and across different floors. This installation, while perhaps intended as a temporary measure to reduce cleaning needs during the Leigh Street construction, poses a significant fire hazard. Plastic materials can accelerate fire spread between areas and emit toxic fumes when burned. Now that construction has concluded, prioritising fire safety over cleaning needs and removing these plastic coverings is imperative. A video showcasing the plastic coverings is available here: https://youtu.be/8y7XKeyDC4k
- Ineffective Parking Ventilation System: The ventilation system in the parking area is compromised, with at least one unit directing airflow against a steel beam, rather than ventilating the space effectively. This could hinder smoke clearance in the event of a fire. You can view the issue here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH_Qc2r9Rjk
- Non-Functional Fire Door: The fire door near my flat has been unable to close since my move-in date on 19/6/23. Despite assurances during our call on 8th November that this would be addressed, the door remains unrepaired. Evidence of the issue can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKw3eAyK3po
- Annual Fire Door Inspection - Bathroom Door Issue: During the "Annual Fire Door Inspection," when you never came to do your inspection of my flat, I would like to highlight that my bathroom door still fails to close. This has been a discomfort for personal use (when using the toilet for example), but it becomes a concern if it impacts overall fire safety. Your commitment to fixing this on our call on 8th November has yet to be fulfilled. Reference video: https://youtu.be/XW9x6XY1bRw
- Bins Positioned Next to Cars: Placing bins adjacent to vehicles may not only be a fire hazard but also raises concerns about the effectiveness of our building's fire prevention measures. Given that bins are typically stored in designated, secure locations, this current practice might compromise safety. Here is a video illustrating my concern: https://youtu.be/5eG1ciQy3Xk. Furthermore, past issues with bin management have not been encouraging. Bin locals (that my fob doesn’t give me access to) back in September: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riUqYotywCQ. This also links back to the defective ventilation system in the parking area
The safety and security of residents should be paramount. You failed to take action in the past, but I trust that MCR Homes will now take immediate action to address these concerns. I look forward to your prompt response and to a plan of action for resolving these issues as swiftly as possible.
Thank you for your attention to these matters.
Sincerely,Remarks
What this original email is about is fire safety. We'll see in answer emails that we deviate from it, and sometimes lose track of fire safety (and other safery concerns). I will be duped/manipulated and steer away from those original concerns.
